Agribusiness student Carlee Clews Awarded 2026 Te Mania Angus Scholarship

We are thrilled to share that Carlee Clews is the 2026 recipient of the Te Mania Angus Scholarship.

Carlee is currently studying Agribusiness at Marcus Oldham College and was announced as this year’s $20,000 Te Mania Angus scholarship recipient on May 28 at the Marcus Oldham Foundation Cocktail Party in Melbourne.

Having grown up on a cattle property in Central Queensland, Carlee has her sights firmly set on her learning journey to become a future leader in agriculture. We caught up with Carlee, who shared her reflections on her time at Marcus Oldham so far and her aspirations for the future.

What has been the highlight of your 2026 studies so far?
2026 has been both exciting and rewarding. My studies in Agribusiness have encouraged me to consider the agricultural industry beyond the farm gate and to develop a comprehensive understanding of its complexities. A particular highlight has been engaging with industry leaders, visiting diverse businesses, and establishing connections with dedicated professionals throughout the sector.

Having grown up on a cattle property in Central Queensland, I have always valued practical work with livestock. This year has enabled me to integrate that hands-on experience with the development of business, leadership, and management skills. I have especially appreciated opportunities to deepen my knowledge of supply chains, people management, and the evolving challenges and opportunities within the beef industry. Each experience has strengthened my commitment to agriculture and my aspiration to contribute positively to its future.

What opportunities are you most looking forward to in the year ahead?
I am particularly enthusiastic about further expanding my industry knowledge and gaining exposure to innovative and progressive agricultural enterprises. For the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, I aim to pursue industry placements that will challenge me, broaden my perspective, and support my development as a future leader in agriculture. I am interested in deepening my understanding of beef production systems, agribusiness management, and the role of effective leadership in establishing successful and sustainable enterprises. My objective is to continue advancing both personally and professionally while cultivating meaningful industry relationships that will support my long-term career in the beef sector.

What does receiving the 2026 Marcus Oldham Te Mania Angus Scholarship mean to you?
Being awarded the 2026 Marcus Oldham Te Mania Angus Scholarship is both an honour and a privilege. The financial support offered by the scholarship alleviates the challenges associated with studying away from home and enables me to fully engage with the opportunities available at Marcus Oldham.

In addition to financial assistance, the scholarship signifies recognition from a highly respected seedstock business that demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and the advancement of the beef industry. This acknowledgment provides confidence in my career trajectory and motivates me to pursue excellence in both my academic and professional endeavours. I am deeply grateful to Te Mania Angus for investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders.

What advice can you give to other emerging agricultural leaders?
My advice is to maximize every opportunity that arises. Scholarships offer more than financial support, they facilitate access to valuable industry connections, learning experiences, and personal development. Do not hesitate to step beyond your comfort zone, ask questions, and introduce yourself to professionals within the industry. Many valuable lessons are gained through conversations with those who have prior experience. Remain curious, be open to learning, and recognize that every experience, whether successful or challenging, contributes to your growth. Above all, have confidence in yourself and apply for opportunities, even if you feel you are not the ideal candidate, as they may lead to unexpected outcomes.

Congratulations, Carlee, from everyone at Te Mania Angus, we wish you every success.
