Spotlight on Team Te Mania’s Fiona Conroy: A Legacy of Success and Innovation

Meet Fiona Conroy, a proud member of Team Te Mania, and her husband, Cam Nicholson. Together, they run Knewleave Partnership at St Leonards on the Bellarine Peninsula, with the support of their children, Angus, Steph, and Lydia. Recently, Fiona shared with Stock and Land her remarkable 50-year journey with Angus cattle and their data-driven triumphs.

Reflecting on their success, Fiona emphasized, “Breedplan has driven the breed’s ability to focus on economic traits such as fertility, growth, and carcase attributes.

“It means we now have a herd which is fertile, productive and we can target premium markets, which value marbling for eating quality.”

Joining Team Te Mania in the 1990s was a game-changer for Knewleave. “This decision was the catalyst for us to delve into herd performance recording, by collecting Breedplan traits, increasing  use of AI, and adopting cutting-edge technology. Access to fantastic genetics has significantly accelerated our herd’s genetic progress,” Fiona explained.

She expressed her gratitude towards the Gubbins and MacFarlane families and other commercial producers within Team Te Mania. “It has made breeding commercial Angus cattle exciting as there is always something new on the horizon.
