Team Te Mania online female sale defies market to gross more than $2 million

Team Te Mania’s annual online commercial female sale this year smacked the volatile beef cattle market to see a pen of cows with calves at foot from Wave Hills Partnership reach $2700.

In a sale which was $300 to $500 per head stronger than similar AuctionsPlus female sales, it grossed $2.5 million to average $1947 for the 1293 lots sold.

Team Te Mania director Hamish McFarlane describes the sale as a “vindication that whatever the market, genetic quality always rules”.

Hamish says the sale had more than 5000 catalogue views and 132 bidders competing for a slice of the offering from 15 Team members with more than 800 bids – market leading demand on the AuctionsPlus platform.

He says from the first year it was staged it has been the cutting-edge quality of genetics in the Team Te Mania coalition which has set it apart – and made it a major annual fixture in the beef industry calendar.

“With Team vendors from SA, Victoria and NSW, the sale had strong demand through all those states and well into Queensland,” Hamish says.

“Demand from there, and northern NSW, set the pace for the day although buyers did have to compete against strong bidding from other Team Te Mania members, who took a fair piece of the catalogue, which has to be an incredible positive,” he says.

“PTIC cows and heifers to calve in spring were really sought after, with 640 head averaging $1936 with two pens from Susie Chisholm at Adelong, NSW, dominating proceedings at $2470 and $2420.

“Michael and Sallie Carroll from Widgeegonga, at Derrinallum, Victoria, also sold a pen of maxed age cows to calve in spring for $2300.”

Hamish says eight vendors put up a combined 376 PTIC heifers with the best result $2525 for Thring Pastoral at Mandurama, NSW, followed by Duncan Clowes, Milthorpe, NSW, with $2450 and Susie Chisholm, Adelong, NSW, at $2430.

He says Wave Hill’s top price came in the cows and calves section, where three vendors had pens.

“The Wave Pastoral cattle went to a fellow Team member after some spirited bidding,” Hamish added.

“We were delighted to see a strong contingent of previous clients operating on the sale, along with plenty of new buyers and, of course, the outstanding support from a number of Team Te Mania members, “he says.

“Once again the Team Te Mania online commercial female sale was a blue-ribbon opportunity to acquire quality replacement, or foundation, females, giving buyers a genetic fast-track to boosting the profile of their own herds.”
