Female focus in Angus herd pays in Walgett drought

Michael and Annie O’Brien of “The Brigalows”, Carinda, run a finely tuned farming operation of cattle, sheep and broad acre dryland cropping, on the north western plains of NSW.  The Angus herd is run between The Brigalows and “Stratton”, near Roma in Queensland.

In this interview with Kylie Nicholls, of The Land, Michael talks about the framework behind maintaining their high quality breeding herd through extreme dry periods.  Brigalows cattle are highly regarded in the marketplace – by backgrounders, feedlots and as breeders.  Recently they achieved $6.30/kg on AuctionsPlus for 200kg steers.
