Calving program reaches 1116 calves in 42 days

Over the last six weeks, 1116 calves have been born at Te Mania, Mortlake, Vic.  It has been full on for our team, catching, tagging, weighing and drifting the calves with their mothers from their mobs.  On some days 50 calves have been born.
Throughout the year, the mature cows run in mobs of around 600 head.  Both heifers and cows are split into mobs of up to 300, for calving.
As they calve, the cows with their calves are drifted into mobs of 250 to suit our AI program groups.
At Mansfield, Victoria James McCormack is just as busy calving down the 400 calves from the Embryo Transfer program.
They calve over a similar short period which enables us to run tight contemporary groups for progeny testing, and to present even lines of similar age sale bulls.
