MLA research on parasite resistance

2014 Oct MLA considers new trait, parasite resistanceA new report from Meat and Livestock Australia, due out by Christmas, is expected to spark a surge of interest in including parasite resistance as a trait in Breedplan, writes Colin Taylor, WeeklyTimesNow.com.au, October 24, 2014.

The research project, with funding from the MLA, involved 2400 Angus weaners with genetic links to Te Mania Angus, from eight herds spread from Coolah in NSW, to Mortlake, Victoria.

Tom Gubbins said “the project collected worm resistance information, and we got good heritability.  With all the environmental noise stripped out, we saw some animals had fewer worms than others.
