Scholarship Spotlight: Megan Russell

Megan Russell is a rising star in the beef industry, with ambitions firmly anchored in profitable beef production. This month, we caught up with Megan, the 2025 recipient of the Te Mania Angus Scholarship at the prestigious Marcus Oldham College.

2025 – A year of insight and learning.

Throughout 2025, Megan focused on expanding her knowledge and gaining valuable insights across a range of agricultural enterprises. During a tour of Victoria’s Wimmera region, she explored livestock, cropping, and horticulture operations, deepening her understanding of diverse production systems.

Megan also broadened her perspective on international markets during a tour of New Zealand’s South Island. This experience highlighted innovation within the NZ industry as it navigates regulations surrounding synthetic nitrogen application and the maintenance of healthy waterways. In addition, Megan attended guest lectures on genetics, reproduction, and farm advisory consulting, further developing her technical knowledge and practical skills in preparation for life beyond Marcus Oldham.

2026 – New beginnings.

Looking ahead, Megan is excited for what 2026 will bring. She plans to apply her studies throughout the year while continuing her personal and professional growth.

It will be a year of new beginnings as Megan relocates to Holbrook, NSW, to commence her work placement with Rose Grange Pastoral Company.

She is excited to become part of a team and business she would aspire to if she were to establish her own in the future. Megan is looking forward to learning from experienced industry leaders and to new networking opportunities that will support her educational and career journey.
