The Lakala herd of 1000 females is managed with an eye on profitability and sustainability, and was recently nominated for the Weekly Times, 2022 Farmer of the Year.
It is run with a strong focus on fertility, carcase traits – marbling and eye muscle area; as well as eye appeal, with muscling and body length to complement the EBVs. Lakala turn off 470-500kg steers, usually to the feedlots at around 14 months of age.
