Team Te Mania kick goals in a black (and Blues) online sale

Team Te Mania cattle kicked more than a few goals on AuctionsPlus last week; when a line of 70 steers, 11 months sold to Rangers Valley, Glen Innes, NSW, $2,120/head ($6.31/kg).

Team members, Werai Station, Deniliquin, in association with fellow Team Te Mania member Dennis Gleeson, Colligen Creek offered 275 weaners through Carlo Taranto, Elders Pakenham.

Even better, the 85 heifers, 10 months old, went to retired Carlton footballer Fraser Brown and business partner Frank Sofra for $1800, as foundation females for a 500-cow breeding operation in Cardinia.

And Carlo said not only do Fraser and Frank intend to base their program on Te Mania Angus genetics, they are already looking into the possibility of becoming Team Te Mania members themselves.

He said to progress that option they are already on the hunt for more pure Team Te Mania Angus calves for their herd nucleus.

“That was a good sale and the Bishops and Dennis were absolutely delighted with the impact the Team Te Mania program is having on their business and what it has done for their cattle operation,” Carlo explained.

“In association with Dennis, the two Team Te Mania herds produced a wonderful consignment of pure Te Mania Angus-blood weaners,” he said.

“The 275 weaned calves offered and sold, included 190 steers and 85 heifers – with 100 heifers retained in the herd.”

Carlo said an even line of calves; individually weighed to give a tight weight range, had been yard weaned, given all health treatments and “demonstrated a very quiet temperament set”.

The top line of steers went to Rangers Valley and the other line of 118 steers went to a backgrounder (averaging 278kg @ $6.83), who will prepare them for feedlot entry to Rangers Valley.
