UK Food Production and Supply Management student visit

Sam Hewitt is visiting Te Mania Angus as part of his studies in Food Production and Supply Management at the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester, UK.

Here for three weeks, Sam is investigating how we as a seedstock supplier of Angus genetics, use performance recording to produce genetics for the commercial industry, and how this impacts meat quality further down the supply chain.  His particularly interest is comparing production techniques and how the Australian and UK industries differ in their food production methods.

Yesterday Sam attended the consultation workshop hosted by The Angus Society of Australia in Hamilton, Victoria which discussed the breeding direction of Australian Angus.  It reviewed the selection indexes and how they can be more relevant to today’s Angus producers.

Sam returns to the UK next week to complete the third year of his his degree and will no doubt keep us informed of some of the interesting conclusions he arrives at over the next year or so.
