Robert and Nancy Atkinson

Balmaha

Wonthaggi, VIC

Steers from the Balmaha herd have won numerous awards for marbling and conformance within the CAAB program.

Robert Atkinson has used artificial insemination in the Balmaha herd continuously since 1993 as part of a breeding program focused on producing quality commercial cattle which perform and achieve superior returns. Robert was originally part of the Genetics Australia progeny test program before joining Team Te Mania early in its inception.

Team membership has allowed Robert access to top genetics for producing quality commercial cattle. As a result, the Balmaha breeding program specifically targets the quality-focused sections of the cattle and meat industries, such as the long fed Japanese B3 market as well as the CAAB program.

The quality and performance of Balmaha steers were recognised with certificates of excellence for marbling and overall conformance for CAAB specifications in both spring 2003, autumn 2004, and again in spring 2007. The Balmaha herd comprises 200 breeders and replacements based at Wonthaggi in Gippsland.
