Young cattle hit record prices on AuctionsPlus with Barfold Beef in the mix

Auctions Plus had record numbers and prices, listing 17,849 cattle in last week’s (21/2) Weaner & Yearling sale  and Eastern States sales,  writes Jon Condon., Beef Central.

Young steers >200kg produced a 99pc clearance, hitting all time highs for breeds other than Wagyu.  The record price for 38 Angus steers from Moulamein, 5-6 months averaging 122kg sold for $815/head.  Full report – Beef Central.

Matt Shea and his family of Barfold Beef were “blown away” by the results of their sales in the Weaner and Yearling sale.  Long term clients of Te Mania Angus, they sold a line of 116 steers, 6-8 months, weighing 263kg (ave) for $1340 or 509c/kg liveweight.  They sold a second line of 50 steers, 6-8 months, 216kg (ave), for $1075 equating to 496c/kg.  Their 120 heifers offered sold to restockers at Guyra, 6-8 months ave weight 230kg for $1220,  528c/kg live weight.

Later in the day the Sheas attended the Weekly Times and Coles “Farmer of the Year” Awards, where they were presented as a finalist in the Beef Producer section.  Congratulations to all three finalists, for their innovation and contribution to the industry – The Shea family of Barfold Beef, Kyneton, the Wyld family of Koolomurt, Coleraine and winners, Wal, Jen and Charlie Perry of Trent Bridge Wagyu, Aberfoyle NSW.
