Te Mania Genetics reap Premiums in Glencoe dispersal

Posted on December 12, 2019

Evan and June Baillie have dispersed their Team Te Mania herd, Glencoe at Forbes, NSW on AuctionsPlus last week.

Selling the last of their Spring calving herd, the Baillie’s received $4.94/kg for 88 x 7-8 month old heifers, averaging 279kgs LW.  The icing on the cake for the Baillies is they were purchased by fellow Team members, Steve and Sue Brain at Boona, Mumbannar, 950kms away.

The steer portion, were purchased Te Mania clients, David Bayly of Stonehut, Keith, SA at $3.63/kg for 118 head, averaging 295kgs.  David had previously had Glencoe heifers on agistment, and was familiar with their growth rates and performance.

After the sale, Evan said it was the Te Mania bloodlines that the buyers were after.  He had kept all the cattle in good condition throughout the drought, feeding cotton seed and forest sorghum hay.  “We weaned the Mar/April calves in October, and the calves just kept going forward, and so did the cows”.

Evan and June Baillie’s property Glencoe, at Forbes in NSW, has been hard hit by drought, and like too many other livestock producers, the Baillies have made the hard decision to disperse the remainder of their herd.

The Spring calving portion of the herd was sold on 4/10/19  achieving the Auctions Plus sale high twice at $2100, for pens of 40 cows with calves at foot.

The Baillies have used Te Mania bloodlines only, for 16 years as Team Te Mania members, with a focus on a highly fertile herd giving a strong return per hectare.   Steers from Glencoe are sought after for their high marbling genetics and are sold to feedlots.
