Bulls sold to a top of $22,000 at the Te Mania Angus Northern Spring Bull Sale in Walgett
this week. 117 of the 118 bulls offered, sold for an average of $7,730. This was an increase
of over $1,000 on last year’s northern sale, despite low cattle numbers in the Walgett
region.
The $22,000 top priced bull was lot 10, Te Mania Kama–Sutra K120. Sired by Te Mania
Garth G67, he had a strong presence and exceptionally high figures ranking him in the top
1% of the Angus breed for all $Index values. Weighing in at 820kgs, his EBVs included IMF
of 3.4%, BW +4.8, 600D +135, Scrotal Size +4.4, Days to Calving -6.1, and docility +27. He
was one of nine bulls purchased on the day by Minnamurra Pastoral Company.
Commercial producers targeting the top end of the beef chain converged from Queensland
and NSW, with bulls heading to Winton, Armidale, Walgett, Goondiwindi, Blayney,
Coonamble and other parts of the country after good rains.
Sons of home grown Te Mania sires were highly sought after with 15 sons of Te Mania Garth
G67 selling for an average of $9,266. Te Mania Flame F565 had three sons in the sale to
average $10,333.
“There was great support from loyal repeat clients who continue to advance the genetic
improvement in their herds”, commented Hamish McFarlane from Te Mania Angus.
“We would like to thank Clemson Hiscox for their outstanding support, including
independent agents from the RMA network, who introduced clients looking to improve the
profitability of their herds with proven genetics”, Hamish continued.
“This group of bulls have had more information collected on them than any other sale team
that we have offered. The sale bulls were all tested for Net Feed Intake at Tullimba
Research Station in Armidale, in what is thought to be a first for the industry for a cohort of
Angus bulls”, said Hamish
Long term clients Michael and Annie O’Brien, O’Brien Brigalows, Walgett, purchased six
bulls for an average of $10,500. Brian Duddy of Duddy Management, Goondiwindi
Queensland, purchased 8 bulls for an average of $8,375.
Roger Henwood of Aldingham Family Trust took home 12 bulls for an average of $5,375.
The bulls will be used on their Winton property.
“The sale presented great value for purchasers who were able to access the most advanced
genetics at affordable prices in the current market”, Hamish concluded.
A barbeque lunch was co-ordinated by Jane Clemson, in support of the Walgett Lambs
