Profit is the focus for clients at Te Mania Angus, and the powerful line up of two year old bulls suited to both heifer and cow joinings at the August 9 Walgett bull sale, offers exceptional value.
128 two year old bulls which average in the top 15% of the Angus Breed for the Heavy Grain $Index, and the top 20% for the Angus Breeding $Index will be offered.
Right through the catalogue, producers will be able to select bulls according to their herd requirements, using indexes which combine particular traits suited to particular markets. For many, the Angus Breeding $Index will be key, estimating the genetic differences in net profitability per cow joined in a typical commercial self-replacing Angus herd.

“There are low cattle numbers in the Walgett area after three years of drought. The region has experienced a long rest, which has given it a chance to build up nutrients and provide us with one of the best seasons since the mid 1980s.
“The low cattle numbers in the Walgett area make this is a prime opportunity for buyers from all around the country to come to Walgett and buy at a reasonable rate before the Walgett producers re-stock their country”, he said.
Since 1980, performance recording, fertility and structure have been number 1 focus of the Te Mania breeding program.
Temperament scores contribute to the Docility EBV of each animal, along with information previously collected on its direct relatives, and is published in the catalogue.
The same applies for structure, where front feet, rear feet and legs are assessed and submitted to Breedplan to create EBVs, which calculate values based on the animal and its relatives.
This year’s Walgett sale bulls have been measured for Net Feed Intake, at the Tullimba Research Centre, directly measuring the conversion of feed into growth and weight. It is one of the most economically important production traits, affecting profitability for grazing enterprises and feedlots.
