2011 TE MANIA ANGUS SPRING BULL SALE
Tuesday, 9th August, 2011 at 11.30am Walgett Saleyards, Walgett NSW 96 Two year old bulls
Enquiries welcome - Hamish McFarlane Ph 0427 641 606; Tom Gubbins 0429 952 197 Request print copy of catalogue
Te Mania Angus super sire has metric dozen in Walgett bull sale
Ten bulls in the Te Mania Angus Walgett sale on August 9 have been sired by Te Mania Berkley B1 - an Angus breed leader for seven traits and sire of the $91,000 Australian record bull, Te Mania Emperor.
Te Mania Berkley B1 - a leader for key traits such as calving ease, growth and carcase weight - was himself sold to Hazeldean Angus, Cooma, for $65,000.
Te Mania Angus director Hamish McFarlane says the focus of the 96 two-year-old bulls catalogued for Walgett this year is about sires which will deliver the goods for the feedlot market.
And at the same time, he says will boost the female genetic profile for developing premium breeding herds.
Clemson Hiscox's Russell Hiscox agrees.
Russell says "as an agent handling/marketing Te Mania Angus cattle you know you can always sell Te Mania Angus blood cattle at a premium as processors, feedlotters and backgrounders know exactly what they are getting".
The average Longfed Index of the Te Mania Angus Walgett sale team is $121, compared to a breed average of $90 - putting the catalogue in the top 10 pc of the Angus breed.
"Homebred Te Mania Angus sires, which have been bred for commercial Australian conditions, and extensively progeny tested through Team Te Mania herds, dominate the catalogue," Hamish says.
"And they are bulls which also hit the target with marbling - our Walgett sale lineup average is +2.1, compared to breed average of +0.9, which again equates to the top 10 pc of the breed," Hamish says.
"At the same time we have been conscious of keeping birthweight and gestation length EBVs down to ensure ease of calving, while retaining growth," he says
"You can't do anything until you have healthy calves on the ground and the quicker, and more easily, you get them there, and the faster they grow, the better it is for your bottom line.
"This year there are many ideal heifers bulls in the sale which are below breed average for birthweight but still well above the breed average for growth."
Hamish says structure is also all important at Te Mania Angus, and every bull in the catalogue has been strictly - and independently - assessed by Jim Green of BeefXcel.
He says that ensures each bull is ready to work, in both commercial and seedstock settings, regardless of farm geography.
"That's what it's all about. Great EBVs are worthless unless a bull has the conformation to actually get the job done, from the feet up," Hamish adds.
"At Te Mania Angus a poor structural assessment means a bull is culled immediately, regardless of its figures. That way we know we are offering the complete package and the figures and assessment are there for everyone to see," he says.

Our Guarantee Any Te Mania Angus bull that proves to be structurally unsound, infertile or incapable of service is guaranteed for up to three years from date of sale. Under these circumstances Te Mania Angus will:
1) Replace the bull with a satisfactory substitute if available, or 2) Issue a refund equal to the value remaining *see below, less the salvage value.
The guarantee covers the purchase value of the bull, without interest, cost and damages. The guarantee shall apply providing the bull's incapacity is not caused by injury or disease contracted since leaving Te Mania, the value remaining is calculated on the basis that the guarantee is reduced by one third of the purchase price for each year of service from the sale date. A veterinary certificate must be supplied by the purchaser on request.
If any bull that is purchased does not possess a reasonable fertility, although not totally infertile, any dispute that may arise shall be settled by an arbitrator appointed by the auctioneers and must be lodged within 12 calendar months from date of sale.
We recommend that all purchasers discuss injury insurance of their bulls at the sale with Elders Ltd or their Agent. This guarantee is in addition to the normal terms and conditions governing auction sales.
Health Treatments All the sale bulls are vaccinated for Vibriosis and Pestivirus (BVDV) prior to sale. We recommend that any bull that is purchased receives an annual booster for both these diseases.
All of our bulls receive 7 in 1 vaccinations at three-months of age, six weeks later and a booster as a yearling. They are drenched at weaning and periodically according to worm counts.
All Te Mania Angus bulls are examined by a veterinarian prior to sale day which includes palpation of the sexual anatomy and the circumference of the testicles. The jaw is checked for correct bite.
Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM), Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH) and Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA) All breeds of cattle, in fact all mammals including humans, have undesirable genetic conditions. Fortunately, advances in molecular genetics have facilitated the development of DNA tests for their management of many of them.
Our sale bulls have been tested for AM,NH and CA prior to sale. All non carriers are either AMF, NHF, CAF (tested free) or AMFU, NHFU or CAFU (pedigree free, no need to test). There are some carriers in the sale line up, these are depicted as AMC, NHC or CAC.
The carrier bulls offer great genetic opportunities for breeding programs that have not used Future Direction bloodlines excessively and or for cross breeding programs. If you are unsure of the bloodlines of your previous Te Mania sires please email and we will research your herds profile for you and advise you of the likelihood of having carrier females. (We have all clients purchases on our data base) and can research HBR and APR bulls you may have purchased from other studs if you supply their identifications.
