The figures tell the story at Te Mania Angus

Stack them up anyway you like and the result remains the same – high genetic growth means your calves eat less of your valuable feed by spending less time growing to carcase weight.

And that is achieved by using cutting-edge genetics which have been designed to embrace every essential aspect of the modern, high-performing Angus.

Te Mania Angus director Tom Gubbins says increasing consumer-driven downstream demands for a quality product can’t be satisfied by addressing just one or two breeding features.

An holistic approach is essential to create the animals the market needs.  Animals which will go on display at this year’s Te Mania Angus Beef Week Open Day on Thursday February 2.

Te Mania Angus will preview its February 29 Autumn on-property bull sale team.  The catalogue will be available hot of the press, providing breeders an opportunity to mark their catalogues, in advance of sale day.

A selection of elite stud cows will be available for private sale on the day, including ex-donors with flush histories from the Te Mania Angus herd.

Heifers will be yarded in sire groups, giving visitors the unique opportunity to view the offspring Te Mania sires – Berkley B1, Africa A217, Daiquiri D19, Diplomat D10 and others.

At Te Mania Angus we are working with a gene pool which has been established for more than 80 years – an asset unparalleled in the local market.

With this depth of genetic success behind us, we are focused on key performance criteria such as:

High fertility

More genetic fertility means fewer empty cows at pregnancy test time. This is even more evident in hard seasons, when the question is really being asked of your cows.

High genetic carcase merit

Retail beef yield, marbling and carcase weight improve your client's profitability, hence your reputation. This in turn develops a reputation for producing profitable calves for your clients."

Structure

Te Mania Angus has been at the forefront of measuring structural genetic merit and will publish trial Structural EBV's in the bull sale catalogue.  This provides an indication of genetics and how those animals will breed.  A structural score is a snapshot in time, whereas a structural EBV is an accumulation of knowledge!

$ Index values

The key performance indicators of any breeding programme are the $ Index values.  These give an economic value of all the EBV's combined, for specific markets.

The $Index Values of the Te Mania Angus herd have outstripped the breed average in every Index since they began.  For example the Long Fed/CAAB $Index Value over the last 18 years, is graphed below against the Angus Breed average.

Te Mania Angus genetics had an outstanding 2011, from a $91,000 Australian sale record with Te Mania Emperor at the stud's autumn bull sale to recording more than twice the number of Angus Group Breedplan trait leaders than the next-ranked stud.

Tom Gubbins was also named Australian Livestock Producer of the Year, for genetic achievement in the seedstock industry.

But for us perhaps the greatest achievement was the continued spread of our client base and increasing demand from major feedlots for Te Mania Angus blood steers.

For the past 83 years Te Mania Angus has been at the sharp end of the industry, pioneering and driving objective assessment and performance testing.

That commitment has helped ensure our genetic clients benefit in both their seedstock and commercial operations.

This year's Beef Week open day is another opportunity to purchase some of the breed's most advanced females and discuss with our team how they can work in your program. Visitors can tour the property, see the entire Te Mania Angus female herd, with its 1200 stud females and 350 recipients, and get a firsthand understanding of what we are achieving.

Te Mania Angus delivers more proven and predictable sires to the beef industry, with genetics tested through its innovative Team Te Mania progeny test program.

This is based on member herds throughout SA, Victoria and NSW, part of a network of commercial enterprises running pure Te Mania Angus genetics to both fast-track and upgrade their genetic profiles.

You will also be able to meet the Te Mania Angus team, hear about the herd, the bull leasing and breeding program that is Team Te Mania and see a successful cell grazing property.

We will also be delighted to discuss breeding opportunities, donor cows and sale females, as well as having other features such as meeting Sapien Technology's Rob Wyld, who will demonstrate latest animal management software.
